Man Enters Drug House, Leaves Toddler in a Jeep: Cops

David Emerson of Londonderry was arrested last night in Manchester for child endangerment and a crack cocaine charge.

MANCHESTER, NH — A local man is expected to be arraigned in court this morning after allegedly making a drug run in the Queen City and leaving his child in a vehicle for more than 20 minutes, according to police. David Emerson, 31, of Londonderry, was arrested on Oct. 13, 2016, and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and possession of a controlled drug-crack cocaine.

According to police, the department’s special enforcement unit was conducting a plainclothes assignment on the East Side last night when they noticed a man reportedly enter a suspected drug house at just after 7 p.m. The man – Emerson – allegedly entered the apartment building after parking his Jeep in front of the building.

“The detectives stated he was inside of the building for at least 20 minutes before leaving the area in a Jeep,” alleged Lt. Brian O’Keefe of the Manchester Police Department. “He failed to use a turn signal on Bridge Street, so the detectives followed him toward Derryfield Park, where he parked his vehicle.”

The detectives reportedly approached Emerson as he sat inside of a Jeep Cherokee and allegedly “immediately observed an off-white rock like substance in his center console and a young child in the back seat of the vehicle,” according to O’Keefe.

Emerson was taken out of the vehicle and arrested. Detectives also allegedly located a glass pipe on the driver’s seat. The 4-year-old child was taken to police headquarters and was unharmed. The child’s mother picked him up later.

Emerson was scheduled to be arraigned in court on Oct. 14.
