NH Man Cited After Overloaded Vehicle Stop On I-93
NHSP: Belmont man's minivan was not only overloaded, haphazardly tied town with rope and electrical cords, but also not inspected.
LONDONDERRY, NH — New Hampshire State Police are reminding Granite State motorists to be mindful of how they utilize the top of their vehicles when moving items – and the potential dangers overloading a vehicle can cause – after a traffic stop yesterday morning on I-93. A state trooper stopped an overloaded Honda Odyssey minivan on the northbound side of the highway in Londonderry at just after 6:30 a.m. on June 28, 2017. The trooper reported that the driver – Thomas McNeil, 57, of Belmont – had attempted to secure the roof load with electric cords and rope but there were so many items that it was a potential traffic hazard, according to Staff Sgt. Andrew Player of Troop G.
McNeil was cited for negligent driving and non-inspection, according to a report.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by means of a tow bar in order to meet height restrictions, Player noted. While a trooper escorted the tow truck and vehicle off the highway, an item reportedly fell from the vehicle into the roadway.
“The New Hampshire State Police would like to remind the public that driving with items attached/strapped to your vehicle could be extremely dangerous for you and those driving nearby,” Player noted. “These objects can obstruct your view or even worse become unsecure and cause an accident.”
