Vondelle Lee Bates, 83, of Derry, NH died April 25, 2013 in Aurora Senior Living in Derry. Mrs. Bates was born in Weymouth, MA on December 22, 1929 a daughter of the late Irving and Gertrude (Sandel) Forman. She had resided in Derry for over 25 years, formerly living in Windham, NH. She was employed for Filene’s Department Store in Manchester, NH for more than 25 years. Mrs. Bates enjoyed sailing with her husband, spending time on the beach in Maine, reading, and working in the garden. In addition, she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Konkol and her husband Paul of Derry, one son, Richard Bates and his wife Robin McIntosh of Camden, ME, three grandchildren, Brian Bates, Ken Gurley and his wife Mariel, and Lindsey Konkol, one great-granddaughter, Willamina Vondelle Gurley, one brother, Ed Forman of Cape Cod, one sister, Arlene Merline of Franklin, MA, also several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Carlton Bates and by her sisters, Joan Hager and Dorothy Burk.
Calling hours will be held Monday April 29, 2013 from 9 – 11:00 am in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry.
