Officials: Casino Revenue Needed to Finish I-93
NHDOT Commissioner said "all work will stop" if additional funding isn't found.
Speakers at a transportation seminar on Thursday said if expanded gambling isn't approved by the Legislature, work on the $770 million Interstate 93 expansion would grind to a halt.
State Department of Transportation Commissioner Christopher Clement, state Sen. Jim Rausch (R-Derry) and Mark Brewer, airport director for Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, were among the speakers at the event at Derry's Brookstone Grille & Event Center, which was co-sponsored by the Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce.
According to The Eagle-Tribune, both Rausch and Clement said without additional funding from expanded gambling, work on the 20-mile stretch of I-93 from Salem to Manchester cannot continue. "That means all the work will stop," Clement said. "Big piles of dirt will sit there."
