The Town Council voted Monday to continue discussion of a license renewal for Murray's Auto Recycling until its Aug. 19 meeting.
The council had hoped to act on the renewal on Monday, but it quickly became clear that wouldn't be possible because abutters to the property didn't receive a copy of the proposed agreement aimed at addressing concerns about the site until Monday night.
Several neighbors came to the Town Council's June 17 meeting to voice their concerns about the Hall Road junkyard. Those concerns included the early operating hours and unsightly piles of junk cars that can be seen from the street.
Councilor Tom Caron, serving as chairman in John Farrell's absence, made it clear that the August meeting will be the last chance for the parties to reach an agreement, as the council expects to make a decision at that time."I encourage the parties to try to come together and put aside their differences in a neighborly fashion," he said. "Whenever there's a negotiated agreement not any one side gets everything they want, nor should any one side be burdened with all the problems."
