Rail Trail in YOUR Town Seminar offered by Chamber

The Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Government Connections Committee will provide members and the local community with an informational update on the Rail Trail project as it effects Windham, Derry and Londonderry. The popular recreation trail in these communities is part of a statewide initiative, Granite State Rail Trail effort, and will eventually provide opportunity for hiking, biking, running, walking and snowmobiling from the Massachusetts boarder to Concord, New Hampshire.

Join us on August 27, 2013 at 8 AM for an update on the well-loved recreation path that will provide entertainment and good health for generations to come as we explore the following: The history of the Manchester and Lawrence corridor, How the trails started Economic opportunity for communities along the trail, Use that supports Health, Recreation, Alternative Transportation, Challenges facing Rail Trail Development in NH and Plans for the Granite State Rail Trail, what’s next?

The Windham Rail-Trail occupies a scenic stretch of abandoned rail between Range Road and Windham Road, about 4 miles to the northwest. At Windham Road, the trail becomes the Derry Rail Trail and continues for nearly another 4 miles. The Derry Rail Trail runs on the same former rail bed network on which the Rockingham Recreational Trail is built. This section of trail, which extends from the Windham Rail Trail, begins 600 feet north of the restored Windham Depot. Near its midpoint, the trail passes over Bowers Road. Last summer the Londonderry Trailways organization secured the rights to the abandoned Manchester-Lawrence railway corridor for the Town of Londonderry.  It is a 6.4-mile section of corridor that is being turned into a recreational path.  The Londonderry trail will eventually connect with the Derry and Windham rail trails.

The event will be hosted by Halligan Tavern, a business that sits at the junction of the trail in Derry (32 West Broadway).  A light breakfast will be served. Members are FREE and the general public is $15 for tickets. RSVP to 603.432.8205 | Cristen@GDLChamber.org.
