A Republican Approach to Alternative Energy

Our energy future depends upon market competition, not state interference or favoritism toward special interests.

For decades, the Republican party has championed limited government and a “live free or die” mentality. This core philosophy has propelled the GOP to new heights, winning the Presidency nationally and here in New Hampshire delivering us the Governorship and every branch of state government.

Unfortunately, there sometimes seems to be a disconnect between the party of less regulation when it comes to alternative forms of energy. We should apply the same principles we espouse in other policy areas to that of our energy future.

Regulators and legislators in Concord should be encouraging new forms of energy production like solar by not crippling them with new laws and bureaucracy, but also by not treating them differently with unfair favoritism.

Renewable energy, when allowed to compete fairly, will make our state stronger, safer, and more independent. Instead of relying on energy produced in other states and countries, we can grow New Hampshire energy independence by allowing alternative technologies to compete on the same playing field as legacy energy sources.

All energy should be allowed to compete in the free market. It is up to us to make sure the opportunity exists.
