Shaheen 'Disappointed' by Obama's All-Male Cabinet Picks

She tells MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell she hopes the president will "follow New Hampshire's lead."

U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, appearing on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports" on Thursday, said she is "disappointed" that President Obama hasn't appointed any women to his open cabinet posts.

"Well, it's disappointing," she said. "Women make up over 50 percent of the population. I would hope the president would follow New Hampshire's lead. He still has an opportunity. He has some openings, so he has places where he could appoint women and I hope he'll take a look and do that."

Shaheen, part of New Hampshire's all-female federal delegation, said women have different life experiences and a different perspective, and "it's important to have our voice at the table."

Shaheen serves on the Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees, and said she's looking forward to being part of the confirmation hearings for John Kerry and Chuck Hagel, who have been nominated for Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense, respectively.

Asked by Mitchell if she hopes Hillary Clinton will run for president in 2016, Shaheen said her friend will be "a terrific candidate" if she decides to run.
