Shea-Porter Highlights National Community Health Center Week

U.S. Representative meets with healthcare professional around the district.

U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, D-NH, recently toured the White Mountain Community Health Center in recognition of National Community Health Center Week.

National Community Health Center Week recognizes the health centers’ service and contributions in providing access to high quality, cost-effective health care across the country.

Congresswoman Shea-Porter has long supported community health centers and the vital role they play in providing health care to uninsured and underserved populations. “Community health centers offer compassionate, quality, low-cost care to millions of patients. The White Mountain Community Health Center serves Northern Carroll County and portions of Maine and offers excellent health care close to home,” said Shea-Porter.

During the tour, Shea-Porter participated in a demonstration of some of the new medical technology that the White Mountain Community Health Center uses. She also heard from Affordable Care Act Navigators that work at the White Mountain Community Health Center and from patients who benefited from the Affordable Care Act.

Earlier this year, the Congresswoman was honored to receive the National Association of Community Health Centers’ (NACHC) Distinguished Community Health Advocate Award during a ceremony at the Manchester Community Health Center. Last Spring, she sent a letter to the House Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies requesting that “the Subcommittee continue to support the vital role Health Centers play in preserving and expanding access to high-quality cost-effective care in the communities they serve.” In 2008 and 2010, she secured key funding for Avis Goodwin’s new facility in Somersworth.
