Manchester: The Derryfield School’s Lyceum Gallery these next few months will feature the work of two well respected local artists, photographer Robert Janules and painter Richard Widhu. These two artists share a sense of the natural world that is both intimate and closely examined as well as diffuse and abstracted.
Both will be presenting images that seem drawn from a larger art vision of contemporary art while speaking of the north woods. The images offered by photographer Janules seem to come from a different way of looking at the familiar. Of his work, Mr. Janules says “my photographs are not creations but captures taken during my time spent in nature. My role is as steward of nature’s artistry. Digital photography affords me control of post processing operations that allow me to complete this task in an evocative but natural manner.” The photographs are shot at close range and capture the textures and surfaces of place without the content of an individual landscape.
