Town Close to Hiring Town Manager, Senior Affairs Director

The town is close to hiring a town manager and a senior affairs director, Acting Town Manager William Hart said Monday night.

Hart told the Town Council that a tentative offer has been made with regard to a senior affairs director. Pending a background check, the new director will appear before the council for an introduction at its next meeting on Aug. 19.

He also said the town manager's search "goes on apace," with final interviews scheduled and a decision also expected in time for the council's August meeting.

Hart said the town is also in the process of hiring two new police officers to fill vacancies. The town also just completed another hiring process because a few additional departures are expected this year.

He also said he is in the process of looking at some options to reorganize the town clerk/tax collector's office, with the idea being more efficient management and a savings to taxpayers. The town is looking at making some hourly changes, so that the clerk's office would close at 4:45 p.m. instead of 5:15 beginning on Sept. 1.

Due to an increase in the workload at the Building Department, Hart said the town is also considering closing the office to the public on Wednesdays. The idea, he said, would be for the department's employees to be able to catch up on its backlog of work.
