Town Council Signs Warrant

Two councilors voiced opposition to a petition article to spend $227,000 to pave a one-mile section of the Rail Trail.

Before signing the town’s 2014 Warrant, the Town Council once again voted on all 14 warrant articles on Monday night.

The council voted unanimously in favor of the proposed $27.5 million operating budget, as well as all warrant articles except Article 13, to raise and appropriate $20,000 to conduct a Zoning Ordinance audit, and Article 14, to raise and appropriate from Sanborn Road to Symmes Drive.

Chairman John Farrell, who could not attend the Jan. 14 meeting at which the council voted to adopt the FY14 budget, voted against articles 13 and 14 on Monday.

Article 13 would have a $.01 impact on the tax rate, and Article 14 would result in a tax rate impact of $.07.

Vice Chairman Tom Dolan also voted against Warrant Article 14, saying that while he has been a strong support of Londonderry Trailways and believes the Rail Trail really enhances the character of the community, he hopes taxpayers choose to fund an additional School Resource Officer rather than the Rail Trail project if they can only afford to support one of the warrant articles.

Article 8, to raise and appropriate $101,000 for the purpose of hiring an additional police officer to serve as a School Resource Officer, would result in a tax rate impact of $.03.

The town will hold its Deliberative Session on Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Londonderry High School Cafeteria. The public is encouraged to attend. Warrant articles may be amended during the public meeting.
