Tupelo Announces Six New Shows

Os Mutantes, Nick Lowe and The Tubes are among the recently announced acts.

We have SIX new shows to announce this week!

June 21 OS MUTANTES: Legendary psych/rock band from Brazil that has been noted to have influenced Beck, Of Montreal , David Byrne, and countless others. When Os Mutantes was formed, it combined influences from psychedelic acts from the English-speaking world like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Sly & the Family Stone[7] with bossa nova, tropicália, samba and the cultural legacy of the Brazilian art vanguards from the modernist movement. Os Mutantes is one of the most well-known and influential rock bands in Brazil. In addition, many contemporary underground or independent bands in the United States and Europe cite Os Mutantes as a major influence. Kurt Cobain publicly requested a reunion tour from the trio in 1993. Beck paid tribute to the group with his single "Tropicália" from the album Mutations. Red Hot Chili Peppers bass player Flea has stated on his Twitter account that "Os Mutantes the brazilian band is so great". Talking Heads frontman David Byrne has worked to publish and promote the group's music through his Luaka Bop label.

July 20 AMERICAN UNPLUGGED: With Amy Black, Ward Hayden, Sarah Borges, this is a special “in the round” show with three great female singer/songwriters.

August 15/16 NICK LOWE: Somewhere in London a musician carries the keys to the musical kingdom. In his Technicolor sonic scope are all kinds of sounds, from rock to country to soul to pop. Nothing is off limits, as long as it has a groove and goodness based in reality. The musician has been performing for 40 years, but is as fresh today as the first time he stepped on stage. The musician is Nick Lowe, the headmaster of British rock, and his new album, At My Age, is such a cause for certain celebration that fans and neophytes alike should mark its June 26 release as a date to remember. Classic hits include "Cruel to Be Kind" and "I Like the Sound of Breaking Glass".

September 14 THE STOMPERS: Established in 1977 – now thirty five years and counting – The Stompers play a limited number of shows each year to sellout audiences that span three generations! 2009 saw the release of "Stompilation", an 18 track anthology of The Stompers 1983-1985 studio recordings. These tracks include the hits "Never Tell An Angel", "Coast To Coast" – which appeared in the John Sayles movie The Return Of The Secaucus Seven – "Rock, Jump and Holler" – from the cult classic Fraternity Vacation – and "American Fun" which was featured in Adam Sandler's 2010 movie Grown Ups. This compilation is a must for hardcore fans and serves as a solid introductory for the new.
