New Hampshire Armenian Community Announces April 24 Genocide Remembrance Events
Local organizations mark the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide with proclamations, flag raisings, and commemorative ceremonies across the Granite State.
New Hampshire — April 2026 — April is recognized as Armenian Genocide Remembrance Month. During this time Armenian Americans across New Hampshire invite the public to join a series of solemn commemorative events organized by the Armenian National Committee of the Merrimack Valley (ANC-MV), the Armenian Genocide Commemorative Committee – Merrimack Valley, and local activists.
On April 24, 1915, the Ottoman Empire began the systematic murder of 1.5 million Armenian men, women, and children — a crime that would come to be known as the Armenian Genocide. For over a century, the Turkish government has sought to erase all traces of Armenian civilization from its historic homeland. Today, the descendants of Armenian Genocide survivors continue to demand recognition and a just solution to this unspeakable crime against the Armenian people.
A Community Rooted in New Hampshire
Nearly 4,000 Armenians call New Hampshire home, contributing to the fabric of communities across the Granite State as business owners, educators, healthcare workers, public servants, and neighbors. This vibrant community carries with it a profound history — one marked by resilience, survival, and an enduring commitment to ensuring the world never forgets what was lost in 1915.
An Invitation to All Who Stand Against Genocide
These events are not only for the Armenian community. They are a call to action for every New Hampshire resident who believes that genocide — wherever and whenever it occurs — must be recognized, condemned, and never repeated. Sadly, the specter of genocide remains a reality in today's world, and remembrance is one of the most powerful tools we have to combat it. We welcome people of all backgrounds, faiths, and communities to stand with us in solidarity.
So far, Flag raisings in honor of the Armenian Genocide have taken place in Salem on April 11 and in Windham on April 13 in addition to many major cities and towns throughout the world.
April 24 serves as a powerful reminder of the devastating consequences of genocide. "The sacrifice of our Armenian martyrs will never be forgotten," said Jeanmarie Papelian, ANC NH Member. "We continue to call for recognition and justice and invite our New Hampshire neighbors to join us in remembrance."
