📰 News we're reading

• Crews ready to rock on landmark Manchester tunnel project (unionleader.com) — Manchester is moving ahead with a massive multi-year tunnel project under the Queen City Bridge area to reduce sewer overflows and protect the Merrimack River. A 2.25-mile Cemetery Brook Drain Tunnel, bored by the “Granite Janet” machine, will reroute stormwater and ease pressure on the city’s aging sewer system. Construction runs through 2028 and will mainly impact areas near several deep drop shafts.

• Critics of New Hampshire's tougher bail law re-emerge (wmur.com) — Manchester residents are hearing renewed debate over New Hampshire’s tougher bail law, with Mayor Jay Ruais defending it as key to making the city safer. Critics, including Democratic lawmakers and a gubernatorial candidate, argue the law is too harsh and shifts jail costs onto local property taxpayers.

• Teacher Of The Year Semi-Finalists Jumping Worms In NH? Nearby News NH (patch.com) — Manchester gets several mentions in this roundup of New Hampshire’s most-read Patch stories, including local arrest logs and a Manchester resident among Teacher of the Year semi-finalists. Readers will also find updates on Concord overdoses, invasive jumping worms in NH, and other high-interest statewide crime and safety stories.
