- Here are a few tips to have a fun and safe Fourth of July weekend! Whether you're heading to a fireworks display or the beach, here are a few things to keep in mind, according to a recent news release by the American Red Cross. We all know that fireworks can be dangerous. Seeing professional fireworks is always safer! If you live in a community where home fireworks are allowed, never give fireworks to children to hold or handle. Also, never point fireworks toward people, animals, homes or anything flammable. Just in case, always keep water nearby. If you are headed to the beach, at the first sign go lightning or thunder get out of the water, and go inside! The Red Cross officials said not to go back in the water for at least 30 minutes after the last lightning flash. You can find more safety reminders here. Have a fun — and safe— holiday weekend!
