Southbound Interstate 293 In Manchester To Temporarily Close Overnight On Thursday

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester drivers will face an overnight detour on I-293 this week as the New Hampshire Department of Transportation temporarily closes both southbound lanes in the city.

According to NHDOT, the closure is scheduled for 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Thursday, July 23. The work area is between the travel lanes just south of Exit 5, where crews will perform a manhole repair.

NHDOT reported the overnight closure is needed so workers can safely plate and pave over an existing manhole cover located just south of Exit 5. During the shutdown, all southbound traffic will be directed off I-293 at Exit 5, also known as Granite Street, and detoured back onto I-293 South using the Exit 5 on-ramp.

The agency said traffic control measures will be set up to move drivers through the area. Message boards, signs, traffic cones, and other traffic control devices will be in place during the closure.

For motorists, the immediate impact will be a temporary change in traffic patterns overnight at one of Manchester's highway exits. Drivers heading south on I-293 during those hours should expect to leave the highway at Exit 5 before reentering on the southbound side.

NHDOT encouraged drivers to slow down and stay attentive in the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use caution while traveling through the work zone, remain alert for changing traffic patterns, and obey all posted signs and directions from traffic control personnel.
