124-Room Hotel Coming to Merrimack

WoodSpring Suites plans to build hotel on part of old Merrimack Hotel and Conference Center parcel off Exit 11.

MERRIMACK, NH — A real estate company announced on Oct. 5, 2016, that it had sold a nearly 2-acre slice of land formerly on the Merrimack Hotel and Conference Center site for a new extended-stay hotel. WoodSpring Suites plans to construct a 124-room hotel on the site as part of the first phase of redevelopment of the nearly 17-acre parcel off the Everett Turnpike, according to Robert B. Singer, a principal of 4 Executive Park Drive Realty.

The company purchased the property in June 2015 for a little less than $1.3 million, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader, after nearly a decade of being vacant.

“We’re excited about the redevelopment of this property as it is in the town’s 2013 Master Plan as located in the Merrimack Opportunity Zone, which is recognized as having the most promising revitalization or redevelopment potential,” Singer said in a statement. “It is well situated with immediate access to the turnpike, Exit 11, and Daniel Webster Highway, and is in close proximity to entertainment, shopping and restaurants, health care facilities and major employers such as Fidelity, Anheuser-Busch and BAE Systems.”

Singer added that the company was exploring different redevelopment options on the site adding that a number of companies in the continuing care, rental housing, and assisted living businesses had eyed the site.

The Merrimack Hotel and Conference Center was first built in 1979 and was sold in 2005 for about $10 million by a company in Ohio that planned an indoor water park, resort, and reconstructed hotel, but plans were later scrapped. In 2009, according to the Nashua Telegraph, the hotel was put up for sale for $7 million, and has had many incarnations of renovation schemes and owners.
