4 MYA Wrestlers compete at New England Championships
All Merrimack Wrestlers get wins at toughest annual tournament in the region and Meehan takes 5th place
The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program attended the 2018 Youth New England Wrestling Championships held at North Andover High School in North Andover, MA on March 10, 2018. All competitors must qualify to wrestle at their individual state championships spanning NH, MA, ME, VT, RI and CT. The tournament is known as the most competitive tournament in New England with the New England champ title being very coveted and highly regarded. Merrimack brought four wrestlers to compete in the tournament with individual results below:
Third grader Rhys Dewar moved through his first round with a win by pin. He fell by points in the following match putting him into the consolation bracket. He came back strong in his third match winning by points in the very last seconds. He ultimately fell in his final match but fought very hard and fared very well for his first year at New Englands.
Fourth grader Cayden Dine also won his first match moving him into the quarter finals. He fell in his second round moving into the consolation bracket. He followed suit with his teammate Dewar bouncing back and winning his third match by points. He ultimately fell in his final match fighting very hard in a tough bracket.

Jackson Meehan, grade 4, pinned his first two opponents moving into the semi-finals. He fell in his third match moving him down into the consolation bracket. He narrowly fell by a couple of points in the consi-semis and ultimately won his final match to place fifth on the podium.
Sixth grader Owen Forrest fell by a mere few points in his first round putting him in the consolation bracket. He bounced back winning his second match and ultimately fell in his final match-up but worked very hard in his tough bracket.

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program is part of the Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program. It strives to provide a safe recreational activity in grades K-8. The program promotes the sport of wrestling, the world’s oldest sport, by providing a safe practice environment, by delivering high quality instruction, and by facilitating tournament competition opportunities. The program is in its 13th season and currently has 40 wrestlers on the roster.
