Alleged Wrong-Way Driving Leads to OUI Charge

Merrimack Police arrested Mary Abelleira on Industrial Boulevard allegedly for drunk and negligent driving.

MERRIMACK, NH — A local woman is due in court next month on charges after getting caught allegedly driving drunk in the wrong direction of a town road on Saturday afternoon, according to police. Mary E. Abelleira, 55, of Everest Drive in Merrimack, was arrested on Nov. 26, 2016, and charged with operating under the influence of intoxicating liquor and negligent driving.

An officer, according to Sgt. Kenneth MacLeod of the Merrimack Police Department, was traveling west on Industrial Boulevard when he observed a motor vehicle traveling east, on the wrong side of the roadway.

“The officer subsequently stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Industrial Drive and DW Highway and made contact with the operator, identified as Mary E. Abelleira,” MacLeod noted in a press statement. “While speaking with Abelleira, the officer observed signs of impairment due the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Upon further investigation, Abelleira agreed to perform voluntary standardized field sobriety tests. Upon completion of those tests, Abelleria was placed under arrest.”

Abelleira was processed and released on $1,500 personal recognizance bail. She is due in court on Dec. 8.
