MacDonald: Taxes, And Therefore Democrats … Are Our Biggest Affordability Problem

A third-party ad is circulating on streaming networks claiming that Chris Pappas is working to make housing more affordable. It implies that he's the only one and that we need him to keep working on the problem.

It is untrue that he's the only one, and the messaging ignores that many of his proposals involve taking money from taxpayers to provide financial incentives or support. The latter is important. When Democrats use the word affordable, it comes with hooks.

The first is that they mean someone else should subsidize it. Tax one set of hands so they can bring it to another. But the receiver needs to jump through hoops for the benefit, and those hoops are held by government employees and NGOs that grow the size and cost of government while depleting the so-called benefit.

Second, this interference warps the market and drives costs up. Things get more expensive for everyone not eligible for the benefit because of the benefit, which triggers the change agent to extract more taxes.
