Officers located the woman walking east in the median during heavy traffic. An officer attempted to talk to the female to determine why she was in the median when she abruptly turned and ran away from the officer without speaking to the officer.
Fearing that she would run into traffic and create a substantial risk to her safety and others, a responding officer attempted to detain Sonntag who immediately resisted the officer. During a brief struggle during which the officer attempted to gain control of the female, she allegedly produced a large (10-inch) butcher knife, which Sonntag thrust toward the officer’s face.
