Big Hair is Back ~ Tips and Tricks from Hairthurium

Want big, beautiful, hair, full of volume? An easy way to blow dry and create a style that will last for days.

Ladies, start your blow-dryers, because you'll want to try these techniques for pumping up the va-va-volume! First, we must clarify two major misconceptions...

1. " I need to shampoo my hair everyday"

2. " If I use conditioner my hair will not have any body"

Most of us can shampoo every other day. With that said you can save time and get awesome body by restyling your "second day" hair. If your hair has a bit of natural oil, sweat or odor there is an amazing product called Refresh by Redken. The design team at Hairthurium highly recommends it. It is a dry shampoo you lightly spray through out your hair. Sometimes this is all your looks needs, otherwise apply a light mist of root lifter and  use your heat appliances or velcro rollers.

Unless your hair is EXTREMELY fine, you should use conditioner every time you shampoo, NO EXCEPTIONS. Moisture is your hair's best friend, especially if you have any type of chemical treatments, color, or a fan of hot tools when styling. You cannot create volume when your hair is not healthy. Start with a daily conditioner and add a deep treatment weeekly.

How to raise the roots! To get more from your blowout, when hair is slightly damp, blast your roots with a volumizing spray. We usually "cocktail" products in the salon, by adding mousse on the mid-shaft to ends. Always make sure you emulisfy your product in your hands before applying. Stylling product must be evenly distributed through the hair to maximize its benefits. Start by blow drying with your hands, drying the root area first. Next start blow drying in sections, starting at the nape of the neck. You will need a large, natural bristle brush. Wrap each section, pull it up in a 90 degree angle. Apply blow dryer heat, then cool each section with the cool down button on your hair dryer. If you do not have this feature....you need it. Let each section dry and cool completely before you unwind the brush. Work through the entire head in this fashion. When finished, hit your hair with cool hair and use your hands to get the hair in place. Voila, you have big, beautiful hair. The initial blow dry time is a little bit more work, but worth it is you get 2 or 3 days out of it! As always the design team at Hairthurium is always available to assist or consult in any way.
