Democrats and Communists... Whatta Surprise

Democrats and Communists. This usually begets the hyperbole-induced eye-roll from many, but stick with me.

Democrats and Communists. This usually begets the hyperbole-induced eye-roll from many, but stick with me.

Consider a recent headline regarding a Democrat Senator addressing a bunch of communists from Breitbart: “Dick Durbin at May Day Immigration Rally: Communists? What Communists?”

Together again, deluded communists and a Democrat, in some cases that’s a distinction without a difference.

Senator Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) attended a May Day march in Chicago the other day. It turns out that it was decorated with what you’d expect: Che Guevara’s shaded visage, hammer and sickle flags, painted anarchist A’s on placards, etc., the usual bouquet of symbols representing the wilted leftist ideas that resulted in blood-soaked suffering over the past few centuries. Gripping the bouquets were rubes too long on idle, too short on history, or (maybe and) just too dumb to care.

For the history bereft, blithe insouciance towards warnings from the past is bliss because the warnings are hollow and have no meaning, just white noise. Sure, they’ve heard that communism is bad, but they have no real idea. They are ignorantly skeptical and respond with a shrug, sanguine in their belief that it’s got to be better than it is now. They believe that their life is unfair, cruel, and perhaps short because of somebody else. They unwittingly shaved off the rough edges of the Hobbesian perspective but kept its intent and resolution.

Each is out there waving a flag because he thinks things are unjust — unjust for him. He wants what the other guy has and more of it. What escapes the splenetic peeve is that in someone else’s scenario, perhaps the stranger’s standing right next to him at the rally, he is the other guy to the stranger, and the stranger wants what he has. It doesn’t dawn on him that he’s championing a system that, by its definition, requires an official to say who gets what, when, and how much. And if that thought had pierced the vacuous darkness between his ears, it probably hasn’t occurred to him that in all likelihood, he will not be the one calling the shots and dishing out the goods and orders.

Then again, perhaps it has, and he’s a cosseted masochist craving to perform the whims of some leather-masked, cat o’ nine tail wielding man forcing him into all kinds of acrobatic oddities, in which case he’s cheering on the right side, at least while he’s physically pliable.

But if he’s not, the current suffering and unfairness he feels entails having only one flat screen TV hanging in his living room, two cars, a refrigerator and a freezer, and cell phones, and his kids’ toys are so sophisticated that they would have astonished scientists a mere 20 years ago. This “suffering” will be the good ol’ days if the ideas that he’s out there flag-waving for play out as they did in the last century. Trading his current plight for bread lines strikes me as foolish, but he’s all in.

Which brings me to the Democrat Senator.

Tomhere’s nothing really surprising about communists at a rally, nor is it a surprise that a Democrat would be wooing them while simultaneously playing evasively coy. Communists with Democrats is not a shock to any observer of either throughout the last century. The Democrats welcome the most vile and cruel among us, so long as a quid pro quo is returned, so that the Democrats remain in power.

That’s why they were against anti-lynching laws, the civil rights movement, and were pro-KKK. They needed the votes.

That’s why they take an astonishing and protracted interest in the banal when asked about the slaughtering of black newborns in Philadelphia — the pro-infanticidalists vote D.

That’s why their leaders simply ask the killers and thugs to take their deeds into the alley and are not truly concerned about the ever-stretching shadow thrown from the piles of bullet-riddled black people in the streets of their city, in the precise city where Dick is talking to the communists. There’s not a political incentive to expend resources to address it. They simply look the other way, until things get out of hand, then they blame lack of funds or conjure a canard that points to their opponents as being the culprits--the opponents who have no power in that city or most crime-ravaged cities.

Now, if you’re the type that can tolerate the butchering of newborns, lynching of black people, and homicidal normalcy in your city, then hanging out with a bunch of communists is a stroll through Gorky Park.

Plus, there is always the fact that there’s a bigger difference between progressives, liberals, socialists, communists, and Democrats in their spellings than between their ideas. Same animal, different genus.

Democrat Senator Dick Durbin speaking to communists is not a surprise, nor probably his first time. Next time someone eye-rolls when mentioning the C word with the Democrats, remind them of May Day 2013 in Chicago.
