Hair appliance how-to's ~ by Hairthurium

How to properly use your hair styling tools at home~ How to's by Hairthurium

How to use your hair tools correctly may have never crossed your mind, but it does ours. If you blow-dry, flat-iron, or iron-curl your hair there are a few rules of thumb to follow to maintain healthy hair.

It is very easy to abuse your locks by heat-styling. Hairthurium recommends using appliances with temperature control settings. Blowdryers should be used at low/medium heat, medium speed, and include a cooldown option. Flat-irons usually range from 200-450 degrees. Fine texture, and color treated girls should never exceed 300 degrees. Coarse, curly textured gals should use the 375-400 degree setting. No one should ever use a setting of 450 degrees! This setting is only used for in-salon professional straightening services, like Keratin or chemical straightening services. Using a temp of 450 at home is a guarantee for breakage.

Always remember to prep your hair with a heat protective styling product before blow drying. Hairthurium recommends Redkens Satin Wear blow dry cream or Moroccann Oil. Thermal protectors are a must before finishing your look with an iron. Hairthurium always uses Redken's Iron Silk for flat irons and Thermal Protector for iron curling.

Treat your hair with care when heat styling. You do not need to  make multiple passes thru the hair with your flat iron. Using this technique is a sure recipe for breakage and split ends. The stylist at Hairthurium educate their clients to ensure proper styling. Whether it is sleek and straight, bouncy curls, or a perfect blow-out, the right products and proper technique will maintain a perfect mane.
