NHIAA Owes a Public Explanation Over Reffing Fiasco

Poorly reffed playoff game between Merrimack and Exeter needs to be addressed.

Regarding the recent field hockey playoff game Merrimack vs Exeter.

As the parent of a Merrimack athlete, I would like to see a public explanation for the reffing fiasco that occurred. A blatant high stick goal being allowed to stand, followed by, for lack of better explanation, not knowing/being aware of the rules. In case you are not aware, Exeter was allowed a second time-out, which they didn't have, which went unenforced.

I hope the two referees are banned from any further assignments in the post season.

As a licensed soccer ref myself, I can understand judgment calls and how fast plays take place. But the issue of the 2nd timeout and not knowing how to address it is an embarrassment.

While my daughter does not blame the refs for the Merrimack loss, unfortunately, they were the story.

Very discouraging/disappointing to witness a competitively played game by student athletes, only to have it marred by the refs.

It appears as if the NHIAA wants to hold coaches, athletes, schools to the highest standards. Hopefully it applies to the refs as well.

When I sent this same email directly to the NHIAA, was given a reply that they only respond to the member schools.

A concerned parent,

Chris L
