Olympic History Made in the Pool!
Men's 4x200 Relay win helped Michael Phelps write more Olympic history.
Watching Michael Phelps struggle in the start of these games was difficult. There is so much pressure on him from every angle to keep up his reputation. The critics can be so tough on these athletes. It's hard to say his silver for the butterfly early was bad, but in his book you can tell Phelps was disappointed with that outcome. However, it did get him one step close to making history. Going into the 4x200 Relay he had tied Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina as the career leader with 18 medals.
Once again, the men would be racing against France for this final. For the first time in his career Phelps was placed as the anchor for the team. He needed the other three, Ryan Lochte, Conor Dwyer and Ricky Berens to give him a nice lead. Which these men did in an amazing style. Almost two body lengths ahead as Phelps enetered the pool! Phelps brought the gold home for Team USA. Woot woot!!!
Michael Phleps is now the most decorated olympian in History, 19 Medals, 15 gold. He still has more events during these games which could raise his medal count to 22.
