Salute to the Curly Girl

A day in the life of the curly girl, curls 101. Curly hair behaves, or misbehaves very differently from its straight hair sister. Factors like heat and humidity can turn a good hair day into a bad one. Here are a few helpful hints from your friends at Hairthurium.

Handle with care~ Curly hair is fragile! Due to the inconsistancy of the curl pattern and hair shaft. The hair shaft can have "high spots" where the cuticle is slightly lifted. When the cuticle is lifted, the internal structure becomes exposed, leaving hair vulnerable to damage. Hairthurium recommends using Redkens Curvaceous line or Ouidad products to nourish the needs of curly hair. Deep conditioning on a weekly basis is also recommended.

Shine is hard to fine~ Natural curly hair is rarely able to achieve the same level of shine as straight hair because light does not naturally reflect off curly hair, it becomes trapped inside the spirals. Using Moroccann Oils shine mist will replace the look of natural sheen.

Frizz Alert~ Natural curly hair is prone to chronic frizz and unmanageability. The porous nature of the hair strand allows humidity to be absorbed into the hair, causing the strand to swell. This swelling effect causes the hair to become twisted and kinky, which results in frizz. A great product choice  to combat  the frizzies is Ouidad's Climate Control line. Complete with a shampoo, conditioner, gel and frizz serum, all designed to combat the frizzies.
