Brown Campaign Calls Supporter’s Letter to Dems ‘Offensive’
Charles Benzing of Nashua sent N-word, C-word laced letter to state Democratic headquarters a week after being named a Brown supporter.
Scott Brown’s U.S. Senate campaign is disassociating itself from a supporter in Nashua after the man wrote a rant-filled letter to the New Hampshire Democratic Party, requesting to be removed from an email fundraising list.
According to a post on BuzzFeed, Charles C. Benzing of Nashua, who is also employed as a bus driver in Merrimack, wrote a letter to the party on July 16, requesting removal from the party’s fundraising email list. In the letter, Benzing referred to Democrats as “Fascist c----“ and called U.S. Jeanne Shaheen, Gov. Maggie Hassan, and U.S. Reps. Carol Shea-Porter, and Ann McLane Kuster “whores,” who were “wrapped up in their fantasies” of sexual activities with men of certain races that Benzing referred to by using N-words and S-words.
The week before the letter was written, Brown’s campaign highlighted Benzing on a list of nearly 100 activists, elected officials, and former officials from Nashua supporting his campaign.

In the story, which was posted last night and sent around by the NHDP on July 28, Brown’s campaign manager distanced the campaign from Benzing.
“This is deeply offensive language,” Colin Reed stated. “We completely disassociate ourselves from this individual.”

In a statement later in the day, the campaign stated that it had removed Benzing from its list of supporters.
Benzing is no stranger to media or politics, according to Google searches.
In 2006, he donated $100 to Edith Hogan’s state representative race in Hillsborough 25.
In a Concord Monitor story a few months ago, Benzing didn’t sound like much of a supporter, reportedly stating that he didn’t think Brown fought hard enough in his re-election campaign against Elizabeth Warren.
“You know, I’m looking for the Republican Party to start fighting and really pushing back,” he said.
At an event in 2012 in Merrimack where both Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden spoke with supporters, he predicted to a New Hampshire Union Leader reporter that Romney would “pull it out in New Hampshire” and said Biden didn’t explain how President Barack Obama would pay for his plan to move the country forward.
“He can make up his own opinions, but he isn’t entitled to his own facts,” Benzing reportedly stated at the time.
In 2013, Benzing organized a decertification effort in Merrimack against the bus driver’s union, Teamsters Union Local 633.
