Meet your local candidates for state office in the 2012 Primary Election.

Bios will be posted as they are received and will feed into our Election 2012 topic page which can be found under the "News" tab above.

Phil Straight, Republican

Running for state representative

Date of birth:   Jan. 5, 1946

Your background /education: Born in Iowa, aged in California, finally got to live in New Hampshire/ Civil Engineering

Experience/Occupation:  Construction, business owner, state government, Fidelity, and now retired.  Merrimack Conservation Commission, Merrimack Zoning Board, Chairman of Watson Park Committee, member of Parks & Recreation committee, Chairman of Pavilion sub-committee, member of Merrimack Master Plan Advisory Committee, and member of the State GOP Platform Task Committee.

Prior elected office:   none, but have volunteered in many capacities all my life.

Personal: I am just a regular guy who will work hard if elected. I will never vote on a bill I haven't read. And, I will always look for the devil in the details because they are always there.

Priorities: Stop downshifting costs down to the towns, get old outdated laws off the books, and try to keep government out of our everyday lives.  Reduce or eliminate business taxes as they are really just taxes on the consumer, raising the cost of everything, which hurts the poorest among us, the most.

Why are you running?
As I am now retired,  I have to the time to donate. I have the energy to work hard at understanding both sides of every issue and expect my friends to continue to advise me.  I ask you to vote for me on Sept. 11. If you have a question on how I stand on any subject, just email me at phil.straight@comcast.net.
