Crane Boom Crashes Into Merrimack House

A tree worker was injured during the incident on Turkey Hill Road earlier today.

Merrimack Fire and Rescue teams were called to Turkey Hill Road for a report of a construction accident with injury and found that a crane boom had crashed into the home, according to a report from Fire Marshal John Manuele.

Merrimack Engine 1, Ambulance 2, and other officials responded to thee home and found that the boom had dropped through the roof of a single story ranch. The crane boom caused damage on two sides of the house.

“The crane was being operated by a tree removal company and had tilted when a decommissioned septic tank collapsed under one of the outriggers causing the boom to drop through the roof,” said Manuele. “One of the tree service workers was injured when his foot was caught between the boom and a tree.”

The homeowners, who were in the house at the time of the crash, were uninjured.

After checking the home, the crane boom was removed and during that process, caused no further damage to the home, according to Manuele. The home was declared safe to re-enter and the teams cleared at just before 3 p.m.

The damage was estimated to be about $25,000.

Merrimack Police assisted with traffic and scene control, according to Manuele.
