Early Morning Kitchen Blaze Knocked Down by Merrimack Fire

Teams were called to Timber Lane at just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday; one resident treated, transported.

Merrimack Fire and Rescue teams were called to Timber Lane early this morning to extinguish a kitchen fire, according Fire Marshal John Manuele.

The reported structure fire call came in at 1:49 a.m. on April 28, 2015. Merrimack Engines 1 and 2, Rescue 1 Fire Chief Currier, and Fire Marshal Manuele all responded with the first engine team reporting “heavy smoke from the second floor of the split entry style home” at 1:55 a.m. Mutual aid was requested from first from Nashua and Manchester, according to Manuele, and then from Bedford, too.

Manuele reported that a woman in the home was awakened by a smoke alarm and then, smelled smoke.

“She attempted to exit her bedroom by the hallway, however was blocked by heavy smoke and flame,” he noted.

She called 911 and exited the home from a bedroom window. The woman was later treated by EMTs and taken to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center.

The Engine 1 crew attacked the fire after finding it in the kitchen. Engine 2 arrived and connected a four inch water supply hose to the nearest fire hydrant, at Joppa Road, and began attacking the flames.

The fire was declared under control around 2:18 a.m. Damage to the kitchen was “extensive.” Fire personnel cleared the scene by 3 a.m.

“The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, due to a pan of oil being left on the stove while the adult male went to a convenience store,” according to Manuele.
