Elderly Sex Offender Charged with Indecent Exposure

Merrimack Police: Donald Barrett allegedly flashed at a woman in a parking lot on Continental Boulevard on Saturday.

MERRIMACK, NH — A Tier III sex offender from Merrimack is in trouble again after allegedly exposing himself to a woman in the Shaw’s Supermarket parking lot this week, according to Merrimack Police. Donald L. Barrett Sr., 81, of Amherst Road in Merrimack, was arrested on Sept. 4, 2016, for indecent exposure.

Officers were called to the Shaw’s Supermarket on Continental Boulevard on Sept. 3, for a report of a man exposing himself to a woman. Barrett allegedly asked the woman – an employee at a local business – to speak with him while he was sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot, according to Sgt. Foley of the Merrimack Police Department.

“Upon engaging her in conversation, he exposed him genitals to the woman,” Foley alleged.

The woman then filed a complaint with police and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Barrett was arrested the next day.

Barrett, according to Foley, is a Tier III registered sex offender, and was released on personal recognizance bail after he reportedly agreed “that he not enter upon the property of the involved business or have any contact with the victim.” Barrett was convicted of two counts of felonious sexual assault against a victim under 13 and a single count of felonious sexual assault against a victim under 18 in June 1995, according to a sex offender report online.

Barrett is due in court on Oct. 6.
