The Merrimack Public Library will host New Hampshire author Julia Older on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. Older will be discussing her novel "The Island Queen," which was September's selection for the library's monthly Book Discussion group. "The Island Queen," a historical novel based on the life of Celia Thaxter, combines poetry, romance and murder. It is the first of two completed books in a trilogy about the Isles of Shoals.
Julia Older has also written 11 poetry books. She received a National Outdoor Book Award for "Appalachian Odyssey," a memoir of her 2,000-mile hike of the Appalachian trail, and the IPPY National Bronze Poetry Medal for her book-length poem "Tahirih Unveiled" about Persia's first women's rights activist. She will have books available for sale, with cash or checks, and for signing.
This program is open to adults and teens; space is limited so registration is recommended. For more information about this or other library programs, please contact the library at 424-5021 or visit their web site at www.merrimack.lib.nh.us.
