NH Towns and the Civil War

The Merrimack Public Library will host Dartmouth College Professor Emeritus Jere Daniell. Daniell’s talk will examine the nature of New Hampshire town government in the 1860’s, how the towns help recruit soldiers for what was expected to be a conflict of a few weeks’ duration, how local attitudes adjusted as the war dragged on for four long years, and how the towns memorialized their fallen men and cared for their wives and children.

The program is supported by a grant from the NH Humanities Council and is free and open to all adults and teens. Seating is limited and registration is advised.

Visit the library’s online calendar at www.merrimack.lib.nh.us, call 424-5021 or email mmkpl@merrimack.lib.nh.us to save your seat.
