Five MYA Wrestlers Compete at New England Championships

MYA Wrestlers Compete at Toughest Tournament in the Region

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program attended the 2019 Youth New England Wrestling Championships held at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH on March 9, 2019. All competitors must qualify to wrestle at their individual state championships spanning NH, MA, ME, VT, RI and CT. The tournament is known as the most competitive tournament in New England with the New England champ title being very coveted and highly regarded. Merrimack brought five wrestlers to compete in the tournament with individual results below:

Second grader Ryan Marone fought hard in his 108 lb intermediate bracket.

Third grader Rhys Dewar defeated his first two opponents by points in his 96lb intermediate bracket. He fell into the consolation bracket in the semi finals. Fighting back with one win in the consi bracket to take fourth place medal on the day.

Fifth graders John Regal and Jackson Meehan both competed in the 97lb novice bracket. Regal wrestled tough on the day and Meehan had one win by points.

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program is part of the Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program.It strives to provide a safe recreational activity in grades K-8.The program promotes the sport of wrestling, the world's oldest sport, by providing a safe practice environment, by delivering high quality instruction, and by facilitating tournament competition opportunities. The program is in its 14th season and currently has 40 wrestlers on the roster.
