Granite State Challenge Returns: Merrimack Vs. Newfound Saturday

The Tomahawks face the Bears on in the season opener of the New Hampshire PBS high school academic quiz show at 6 p.m. Saturday.

DURHAM, NH — "Granite State Challenge" is back. At 6 p.m. Saturday, the New Hampshire Public Broadcasting Service high school academic quiz show returns to the airwaves for 2020 with the Merrimack Tomahawks facing off against the Newfound Regional Bears. The show is hosted by Jon Cannon.

Merrimack will be represented by Captain Scott Peyton, Alex Jobin, Troy Church, Nick Gacharna and alternates Aidan Remick and Jack Pikora. The team is coached by Sara Campbell and Linda Mandra.

Newfound's team includes Captain Josh Holton, Evelyn Cutting, Ashlynn Hatch, Simon Shedd, and alternates Brian Watson, Sophia Pettit. The team is coached by James LeBaron. Newfound Regional High School is located in Bristol and serves the communities of Alexandria, Bridgewater, Bristol, Danbury, Groton, Hebron, Hill and New Hampton.

Granite State Challenge, according to Susan Adams of NH PBS, features New Hampshire's top high school academic quiz teams as they demonstrate remarkable teamwork, quick thinking and smarts to beat the clock and buzz in first on this iconic New Hampshire game show. The game emphasizes quick recall of math, science, social studies, language arts, and fine arts facts along with questions about current events, entertainment, sports and New Hampshire, she noted.
