Guinta: Bipartisan Language Included in Fishing Bill
The House approved H.R. 1335, the Strengthening Fishing Communities and Increasing Flexibility in Fisheries Management Act, last night.

Last night, the House passed H.R. 1335 – the Strengthening Fishing Communities and Increasing Flexibility in Fisheries Management Act, according to a press statement from U.S. Rep. Frank Guinta, R-NH.
This legislation will strengthen and reauthorize the Magnuson-Stevens Management Act (MSA) by tailoring federal fishery management actions to provide our nation’s eight Regional Fishery Management Councils the proper tools and flexibility needed to effectively manage their fisheries, support a robust fishing industry and provide more job opportunities for the fishing industry.
“The bipartisan Strengthening Fishing Communities and Increasing Flexibility in Fisheries Management Act is a crucial and common-sense step to ensuring the needs of New Hampshire’s fishermen, the fishing industry and the environment are both balanced and met,” Guinta said in a statement. “ These substantial reforms will increase transparency and provide for a stronger domestic seafood industry while creating new jobs in this vital industry. This MSA reauthorization includes similar language to legislation I introduced to reallocate funds from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s operating fund to the fishermen and fisheries scientists who need it most to rebuild this beleaguered industry. This is one of many of my bipartisan solutions to help alleviate the challenges our state’s fishermen face.”
