Guinta Hopes for a 'Bite of the Big Apple'

NH's District 1 U.S. Rep. backs Patriots championship hopes with lobster, maple syrup and poutine.

Last week, U.S. Rep. Andy Harris, (R-Md.) personally delivered to the Capital office of fellow-House freshman Frank Guinta (R-N.H.) after Harris' beloved Ravens fell, 23-20, to the Patriots at Gillette Stadium on on Jan. 22.

Now, Guinta looks to roll the friendly dice once again as he offers up a "Taste of New Hampshire" for a "Bite of the Big Apple" with another House newbie, Rep. Nan Hayworth (R-N.Y.).

If New England gains revenge on its NFC counterpart from the Empire State – following the Giants shocking upset of the undefeated Patriots in 2007 – Guinta will enjoy a feast of cold cuts, baked ziti and New York cheesecake.

If the Pats once again fall to the G-Men, however, Guinta will send Hayworth a smorgasbord (enough for 12 hungry appetites) of the Granite State's top cuisines including lobster from Brown’s Lobster Pound in Seabrook, New Hampshire maple syrup from Smith Farm Stand in Gilford and, perhaps most notably, poutine (a French Canadian specialty consisting of french fries topped with cheese curd covered with spicy chicken gravy) from Chez Vachon in Manchester.

“This meal represents a slice of New Hampshire cuisine,” Guinta said. “Just as the Patriots represent the best in football, the Taste of New Hampshire represents goodies that Granite Staters have enjoyed for years. I’m proud to showcase the best of our state’s foods with my bet. But I’m sure that when the Patriots whittle the Giants down to size Sunday evening, the lobster, syrup and poutine won’t be going anywhere. And speaking as someone with a fondness for ziti, I’ll be rooting doubly hard for the Patriots to win!”
