King Kone Serves Up Last Cone of the 2016 Season
The popular Merrimack ice cream stand was busy on its last open day of the year.

MERRIMACK, NH — King Kone on Route 3 in Merrimack served its last ice cream cones for the 2016 season on Sept. 25, 2016, marking the end of summer. The ice cream shop has been in business for more than 40 years, and serves soft serve ice cream in a variety of flavors.
“We combined coffee and pumpkin today, “ Savannah Zagwyn, the manager said. “Everybody loves pumpkin because it’s a seasonal flavor.”
Zagwyn said the last weekend in September is the typical closing time for King Kone. Sunday was extra busy and they would be serving customers until the store officially closed at 9 p.m., she said.

“It’s bitter sweet,” Zagwyn said. “We get to see everyone one last time.”
But for Zagwyn, the closing of King Kone also means that she will need to find another job until it opens again around St. Patrick’s Day.

Erik Nigen, who lives across the street from King Kone, said he is a frequent customer. He was there on the last day of the season with his son, Jeremy, 7.
Jeremy was enjoying a dish of chocolate and vanilla twist with chocolate sprinkles - his second choice, he said.
“Whenever there is mint, I get mint.”
As for what they will do until March, “We’ll get some at Market Basket, but it won’t be the same,” Nigen said.
