Legislative Updates by Rep. Maureen Mooney for August, 2023
Legislative Updates this month by Rep. Maureen Mooney
Greetings!
The New Hampshire legislature remains on “summer break” this month but some special committees and commissions continue to meet. In September, House standing committees begin taking up retained bills to give their recommendations to the full House by November 17, 2023.
- One retained bill in the House Commerce Committee is known as the “Elizabeth Croke Law.” Recently, WMUR did an informative story on the bill and the Croke family of Merrimack. The WMUR piece is here: https://www.wmur.com/article/new-hampshire-bill-penalties-bars-overserve/44348657. The full text of HB 279-FN is here: https://www.gencourt.state.nh.... We appreciate all the Croke family is doing to bring awareness to this important issue on behalf of their daughter, Elizabeth. They have the strong backing of Governor Sununu and the NH Liquor Commission. See Governor Sununu’s letter of support here.

- The House Majority Office recently published a list of accomplishments in the new state budget which was historically adopted by a bipartisan voice vote earlier this summer. You can see the full and impressive list here: https://www.nhhousegop.com/23-24budget/ The links to the adopted state budget for the current biennium are here:

- The filing period for new House bills to be taken up in 2024 is September 11-15, 2023. If you have a bill in mind for next year, be sure to contact a Merrimack House member soon!
See you around town!
