Legislative Updates By Rep. Maureen Mooney For March 2023

Legislative Updates for Merrimack.

Greetings!

The House Finance Committee continues to pour over the Governor’s proposed state budget covering almost $15 billion dollars to operate our state. Among one of the most important items is school funding.

Although the state formula for public school funding can be complicated, it is important to know that the base of the formula is called “base adequacy aid.” Base adequacy aid is granted per public school pupil. Currently, the adequacy aid is at $3,866.18 per pupil. The Governor’s proposal increases the aid amount to $4,700.00 per pupil.

For Merrimack in FY 2024, the Governor recommends the estimated SWEPT (Statewide Education Property Tax) aid at $7,172,274 AND the base adequacy amount at $11,122,058 - for a total state grant of $18,294,332. In FY 2025, the total state grant to Merrimack is proposed at $18,660,220.

For an overview of the New Hampshire state budget process, I recently recorded a show on Merrimack TV. Here is a link to the show:

The next step in the state budget process is for the House Finance Committee to present to the full New Hampshire House of Representatives before it goes to the New Hampshire State Senate. Remember, all this money belongs to the taxpayer!
