Mass. Woman Faces Felony Theft Charges

Jodi Faria of Lowell was arrested last week, held on cash bail, after allegedly stealing Nikes at the Merrimack Premium Outlet Mall.

A Massachusetts woman was arrested last week after allegedly shoplifting items at the Merrimack Premium Outlet Mall, according to police.

Jodi A. Faria, 31, of Market Street in Lowell, MA, was arrested on May 22, 2015, and charged with two counts of theft by unauthorized taking and possession of a theft device remover.

At around 4:15 p.m., police were sent to the mall to investigate a “known shoplifter in the area.” Faria, according to police, was seen in the Nike Outlet, allegedly acting suspiciously. Police and mall security later tracked her down and questioned her.

“Upon questioning Faria, it was learned, via store video surveillance, that Faria had used a tool, later discovered to be a pair of pliers, to cut/remove theft sensors from a number of pairs of sneakers,” according to Lt. Matthew Tarleton. “Those sneakers were then removed from store property and placed in a motor vehicle.”

Police learned that Faria had an active arrest warrant issued by the Salem Police Department for a felony level theft and she was taken into custody.

During processing, police learned that Faria had two prior convictions for theft so the charges were elevated to felonies. She was held on $5,000 cash bail and arraigned on May 26.
