Meeting My Favorite Author, Stephen King

- Corey Burrell / Merrimack

Meeting my favorite author the amazing Stephen King

I waited with anticipation for Stephen Kings new book Revival to hit the shelves. I’ve always been a huge fan of Mr.Kings writings, and always wanted to meet him. When I heard he was going to be doing a signing in Maine I just knew I had to attend.
My former physicians assistant, Mr. Russell Dorr, who is the nicest man you’d ever want to meet, and has always been a great care taker, and support system to me, through the years, has been friends with Mr. kings for a long time. Knowing how big a fan I’am of Mr.Kings, and how much I love his writings, Mr. Dorr arranged for me to personally meet Mr. King one on one. My feelings ranged from excitement, to anticipation, and nervousness, but most of all gratitude and appreciation.
I couldn’t began to express my appreciation to Mr. Dorr for given me this opportunity, but then again that’s the type of person he is.
Finally the day arrives when I meet the man who has, through his writings, been a comfort, and inspiration to me during the times when I needed an escape.
My mom contacts Mr.Kings assistant too let her know of our arrival. They closed the book store for a short period of time to prepare for the signing. The assistant comes to unlock the front of the store, and we’re allowed to enter before many others who were waiting in a very long line.
As the assistant takes us to the back of the store my heart beats in anticipation. Across the room,is a man I’ve recognized, and admired for years. There he sits next to stacks, and stacks, of what I was sure to be another one of his masterpieces the book Revival.
As we enter the room Mr. King looks up, rises from his chair, and seems to recognize me right away. He says hello Corey, as he shakes my hand, it’s so nice to meet you, I’ve heard so much about you. Almost at a loss for words I reply, it’s nice to meet you too. In an instant he says to me Corey I have something for you. He goes a short distance to another part of the store and comes back with a specially signed copy of my very favorite book Desperation and tells me it is also one of his favorite books, I thought that was so cool. We get into a small conversation about school and what grade I was in.. Mr. King had a very warm and welcoming personality, and was very upbeat and enthusiastic. I no longer felt nervous about meeting him because he was so welcoming it was just like talking to your next door neighbor.
I was honored to have met Mr. King that day, and glad to get the chance to give him a signed copy of my book Never Misjudge
By Corey Burrell.

What was really cool was that I received an email from Mr. King through one of his assistants telling me how much he “LOVED” my book, and I was so excited to hear that. I will always remember that day, because it made me feel very special, and for that I’am grateful to all who have made it possible.
