Merrimack Bests Nashua South On Granite State Challenge
The Tomahawks win in a squeaker and will face Plymouth Regional High School in the semi-finals.

DURHAM, NH — Three years ago, Merrimack and Nashua faced off in the Granite State Challenge SuperChallenge championship game. In that contest, Nashua South won. This week, it was Merrimack’s turn – by 10 points.
The Merrimack High School Tomahawks – captain junior Scott Peyton, junior Alex Jobin, junior Troy Church, sophomore Nick Gacharna and alternates sophomore Aidan Remick and junior Emily Brule – led throughout the game by anywhere from 20 to 40 points. With a minute left in the contest, Merrimack had a solid 90 point lead. However, Nashua South – represented by captain senior Ankita Devasia, senior Ben Telerski, junior George Eid, and junior Njeri Kiritu, and alternates senior Hailey Sweeney and freshman Sri Korandla – answered a slew of questions in the last minute.
Both teams, however, blanked on the last question – who was the only U.S. president with a PhD – Woodrow Wilson. Merrimack held onto the lead and won, 470 to 460.
