Merrimack Cribbage League Keeps Growing - Moves to New Venue

Do you play Cribbage on your phone, tablet or computer? Did you once play with family and want to rekindle the competitive excitement? Perhaps you occasionally play with a group of friends or co-workers?

The 40-member weekly league is growing and looking to add new players. But don’t let the word ‘league’ be intimidating. “We always welcome new players and encourage them to join us in a relaxed environment,” explains Scott Mortimer, co-organizer of the Merrimack Cribbage League. “This is a great way to get out and meet new people.”

Since January 2023 the league has played at the American Legion in Merrimack – a new, larger location that can accommodate more players. It’s located at 43 Baboosic Lake Road near the Merrimack Police Department. Games are played on the 2nd floor of the smoke-free facility.

The start time is flexible: at or before 5pm. Two-person teams play ten games of partner cribbage. No partner? No problem. The organizers of the league help pair up new members.

Cribbage is a social card game that combines strategy with a little bit of luck. “More often than not I rely on a lot a bit of luck,” jokes Mortimer. “But that’s where the fun comes in.”

The weekly cost to play is $5 with payouts for top scoring teams. There is a “quarter cup” for any hand that scores zero points.

Anyone can join the league. Interested players who are unable to commit to a full season or just want to try it out are welcome to play as a substitute.
