Merrimack High School’s Top 10: James Jolly

James is a friendly person who always has a smile on his face. He enjoys all subjects, but especially science, linguistics, and art.

James is a three season athlete, competing in cross country, swimming, and lacrosse. Between practices and games, he also has found time for politics: he is Class President, and on Student Council. Competing in academic competitions, he is a member of the Granite State Challenge trivia team and Science Olympiad.

Service is a major motivator for James. He serves in his church, Our Lady of Mercy Parish, as well as in National Honor Society and Boy Scout Troop 424. For his Eagle Scout Project, he constructed a running trail along the Souhegan River connecting the Wildcat Falls trail system to the high school, giving the cross country and track teams quick, off-road access to these trails. The trail is planned to be continued by the town to connect Wildcat to Watson Park, creating more accessibility for the public. He is helping MHS to found “Merrimack Cares”, in which students give back to the community through service projects.

Next year, James is attending Clemson University in South Carolina. He plans to major in Bio systems Engineering and minor in Spanish. He is very grateful for the support of his parents, Jim and Kathleen, and his four sisters.
