Merrimack Man Threatened Another Person with Shotgun: Cops

Anthony Smith was arrested last week by police for allegedly pointing a shotgun at a person and punching a wall.

MERRIMACK, NH — A local man was arrested last week on felony charges after allegedly threatening a household member with a gun, according to police. Anthony P. Smith, 47, of Merrimack, was arrested on Oct. 18, 2016, for criminal threatening and reckless conduct, both felonies, and criminal mischief.

At just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, police began investigating a walk-in complaint about a threat incident with a firearm in town earlier, according to police. The person alleged that Smith had threatened them with a 12-guage shotgun during a heated argument, according Lt. Matthew Tarleton of the Merrimack Police Department.

“It was also learned that Smith had damaged an interior wall by punching it during the incident,” Tarleton reported.

Police headed to the home and reportedly saw Smith leaving in a motor vehicle. He was stopped and arrested without incident.

Smith was held on $25,000 cash bail and arraigned on Oct. 19.
