Merrimack Police Arrest Driver After Collision with Utility Pole

A Holderness woman was charged with drunk driving Friday after she crashed into a utility pole on Daniel Webster Highway, police said.

Police responded to a car into a utility pole by 123 Daniel Webster Highway near BAE Systems at 2 a.m. Friday. At the scene, officers found a snapped utility pole and a damaged 2006 Saturn Ion in the road. The crash knocked out power and traffic lights in the surrounding area.

The driver, Stacy Baker, 23, of Holderness,was initially brought to the Southern NH Medical Center for minor injuries, then released from the hospital and taken to the Merrimack Police Department where she was charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicating liquor or drug.

According to police spokesman, Lt. Dean KillKelley, police noticed signs of alcohol consumption, interviewed her, gathered evidence and pressed the charge.

She was later released on $1,000 personal recognizance. Baker is due in 9th Circuit Court, Merrimack Division on Sept. 8.

Eversource Energy, along with Fairpoint Communications and the State of New Hampshire Traffic Siginal Bureau worked through the morning restoring the utilities and traffic signals that were damaged as a result of the accident, police said.
