Merrimack Tomahawk Hockey Opens Season 2-0

Team travels to Salem this weekend for Holiday tournament

Merrimack High School Hockey opened the regular season this past week. The team traveled to Lebanon last Wednesday night and defeated the Raiders in overtime 3-2. Junior Defenseman Kyle Feeney went top shelf in the extra frame to earn the win. Sophomore forward John Tianno had the Tomahawks 2 other tallies for the contest.

The Tomahawks traveled to Salem on Monday night to take on Timberlane. The first period was very even with Merrimack surviving a 5 on 3 shorthanded situation for almost 2 full minutes. The Owls pressed the Tomahawks with good offensive pressure during their 2 man advantage but could not solve Senior goalie Matt Brewster. The score board remained dormant until the second period when the Tomahawks found their legs. The team put 6 past the Timberlane goalie in the second, and 4 more in the third. The Owls did manage to break the shutout Brewster had going on a long range bouncer in the third period. The Final score was 10 - 1 Merrimack with several players getting on the score sheet including Senior forward Shane Foy with 2, Freshman forward Stephen Licata netting 2, and a great shorthanded goal by Sophmore forward Owen O’Brien.
